Celebrating  our lives together in Christ

NOTES FROM FATHER PATRICK

A Parish Vision of Youth Ministry: All parishioners, including those who are not parents of school-age children, are invited to a meeting on February 26, immediately following the 10:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist. This meeting will be part of a more thorough process leading toward a broad outline of goals for youth ministry. During the meeting, Stephanie Gadzik will lead us through an exploration of childhood experience in the church and also help us to move the discussion toward our hopes for the future. In order to assist with attendance at the meeting, a pizza lunch will be provided, as well as childcare for both infants and young children. Infants will be cared for in the childcare room opposite The Palmer Room. The Youth Group will enjoy a film in the Youth Group room, downstairs.

Listening to the Youth Group: This Wednesday, January 18, I will spend an hour with the Youth Group exploring their ideas about Youth Ministry. This is a very active, committed, and intelligent young group and their ideas will be critical in developing a comprehensive vision of Youth Ministry.

Budget Planning for 2012: The January Vestry meeting was dedicated to a review of the proposed 2012 budget. The budget shows estimated pledged income for the coming year to be $220,000, a slight increase from 2011. Several pledges were lost as families moved away, and several new one have been recorded for the coming year. In view of the continued economical stress and transition in the national and world economy, the Vestry believes we are blessed with very committed members. Your pledges are received with deep gratitude and will be used in a prudent and responsible way. Our special thanks to Treasurer, Wendy Laswell, for her work on the proposed budget.

Mark's Gospel Part II: I plan to continue a study of St. Mark's Gospel on Mondays at 7:00 p.m. The course will begin in Lent with a break for Easter. The sessions will be Feb. 27, March 5, 12, 19, 26; April 2, (no session on the 9th), 16, 23. We will begin with the fifth chapter and will pay special attention, especially when reaching chapter 8, to the passion predictions and the passion narrative. My preparation will include a careful reading of both the Greek and Latin text, as well as some attention to scholarly commentaries. Generally, however, the discussion will be rather open and creative, inviting participants to sense and feel their way into the stories. We will not be holding our breath in great anxiety waiting for the "correct" answer. Instead, we will be open to the ways that the text prompts our own legitimate observations, questions, and thoughts.

ANNUAL MEETING – JANUARY 29, 2012

SOLEMN MASS - 11:00AM, JANUARY 28, 2012

The American Branch of the Society of King Charles, the Martyr will offer a Solemn Mass in honor of Saint Charles, King and Martyr. This annual liturgy was to have been observed at Nashota House but a clash of dates necessitated a move. The Bishop, when consulted, suggested All Saints', Appleton, as a suitable venue for this Solemn Mass. We are honored and preparing to offer our services and fine music to this grand occasion. All are welcome. There will be a lunch to follow. Reservations are necessary at $22.50 . Call the office.
