Background

In 1997, the Rt. Rev. Russell E. Jacobus established a diocesan award. The Bishop’s Cross is intended to honor individuals who have provided outstanding service to the Episcopal Church, especially at the diocesan and congregational level. As a diocesan award, it is presented at the Convention of the Diocese of Fond du Lac.
Nominations are accepted by the bishop who determines its recipients after prayerful consideration. Following election as Eighth Bishop of Fond du Lac, the Rt. Rev. Matthew Gunter determined to give the award when he felt secure in knowledge of members of the diocese, its congregations and its diocesan ministries. That time will be the 2019 Convention.

Nominations Accepted
Nominations for the Bishop’s Cross are being accepted. No form is needed. Simply send a letter to Bishop Matt by U.S. Mail or email with information helpful for consideration. Please be certain to share some background information about the nominee’s faith life, involvement in diocesan ministries, and involvement at a congregation (or congregations). Nominators may also want to include information about a nominee’s service to the national church and community activities. Make sure the nominees’ contact information (address, phone and email) is included. Nominations may be received any time, but September 30th is the deadline for the current year’s nominations.
