Dairy Cows for Masvingo |
Over 12 Cows Funded - Exceeding the Goal of 5!
Over $25,000 from 25 congregations |
May 16, 2022 - 3 more paddocks fenced and other dairy equipment such as the cream separator, some vaccines for the dairy cows' teats , water pump for pumping water to water the grass for dairy cows' fodder and stainless steel containers for storage of the milk before sales have been procured.
March 22, 2022 - God exceeded expectations through the blessing and generosity of 60 gifts received from 25 congregations and and their members across the Diocese of Fond du Lac. The Epiphany Giving campaign envisioned by the Companion Diocese Task Force had a goal of $10,000 to fund 5 dairy cows in the Anglican Diocese of Masvingo. Over $24,000 was raised for cows and supplies needed to care a healthy herd. There were 13 congregations that raised funds together from within their church. We were moved by what Trinity, Oshkosh raised. One parishioner committed to one cow ($2,000) as a matching gift and the parish more than responded with a total of $6,000 raised. There were three individuals in the diocese who gave 1 cow each totaling another $6,000). These major gifts alone exceeded the goal set by the Task Force.
Receipts collected through the end of Epiphany totaled $16,000 and were transferred to Masvingo in early March. This allowed them to take action before Bishop Godfrey's retirement at the end of March. From that were purchased 2 uni-calf dairy heifers and 4 dairy cows, a total of 6. All were "serviced" resulting in one already with a calf and the remainder expected to have calves too. So in not too long, the herd may be 12! The funds covered the cost to transport from the farmer in Beatrice to Christ The King Daramombe Mission Farm, to buy feeds and equipment, to construct drinking and feeding points or troughs, and purchase fencing material for the paddocks . The additional amount raised, since then, nearly $8,000, will provide more support to the heatlh of the dairy farm. More about this in the Diocesan March Newsletter found here.
Diocesan Development Officer Matthias Thompson Maduba shared recently that "the Anglican Diocese of Masvingo is very grateful to Bishop Matthew Gunter and the faithful in the Episcopal Diocese of Fond du Lac for supporting us in this great way and enabling the Diocese to start sustainable income generation initiatives."
What a blessing it is to share gifts in a way that sustains the people and supports the local economy in our Companion Diocese! Being in the "Dairy State" and helping establish a dairy farm seems most appropriate. Additional contributions may still be received and will be transferred to Masvingo.

Epiphany Giving
In Epiphany we remember gifts - gold, frankincense and myrrh. In that spirit, the Companion Diocese Task Force called on members of the Diocese of Fond du Lac for Epiphany Giving. Every contribution - from as little as the price of a fast food meal to as much as the cost of attending a professional sporting event - will change the lives of entire communities in Zimbabwe. This diocesan-wide fund raising effort was to fund dairy cows.
Dairy CowsOur companion diocese in Zimbabwe is starting a dairy farm. Since we are in Wisconsin (the "Dairy State"), it is appropriate for us to help! The Anglican Diocese of Masvingo will acquire dairy heifers to add to the farm at Daramombe, where there is an Anglican school's campus in the middle of 1,200 acres of school farmland. The campaign funded more than 8 cows and only 5 were needed to build a sustainable herd. We built the herd with every 24 congregations providing support to the effort.

Congregations
Congregations helped by encouraging their members to give. Some congregations collected gifts and sent them in together. A member of the Companion Diocese Task Force reached out to ask support Epiphany Giving.
