Diocese Launches Masvingo Appeal

Posted 9/8/2020

In 2019 the Episcopal Diocese of Fond du Lac raised more than $24,000 to support capital needs of the Transfiguration Youth Skills Centre, which teaches agriculture and marketing skills, in the Diocese of Masvingo, Zimbabwe. This included a well and storage tank for a steady water source. Meeting this need has benefited many in Zimbabwe.

Last week, Bishop Godfrey Tawonezvi, Bishop of Masvingo reached out to the Diocese of Fond du Lac with a different need. "The Diocese of Masvingo is struggling financially," he shared "under the current circumstances of economic meltdown in the country coupled with the pandemic of COVID19." Bishop Matt Gunter, Bishop of Fond du Lac has assured him of our prayers. After consulting with diocesan leadership, Bishop Matt is launching a short-term appeal in September to respond to the need of the Companion Diocese.

Members of the Standing Committee, Executive Council and Trustees have committed over $3,000. "We know there are needs in our local community," Bishop Matt noted, "and God calls us to respond to needs in any way we can. This is another opportunity to respond to God's call for us to give"

Each member of the Diocese of Fond du Lac is asked to prayerfully consider giving financial support to the Masvingo Appeal. 100% of your gift will go to Masvingo as wire fees and bank fees involved are being underwritten by a donor. The first transfer will happen October 1, so please give by then.

Bishop Godfrey notes that "any amount to support our Diocesan budget will be received with much gratitude and appreciation.” Let's show our support of our brothers and sister in our Companion Diocese. Learn more about the relationship here.
